A native of Peru, Ricardo immigrated to Canada with his young family in 1988 when his home country was suffering from the effects of an ongoing armed conflict. One of the hardest challenges he had to face as a newcomer was the language barrier, as he did not speak English.  He quickly realized that in order to succeed he had to work hard and master the language, so he enrolled in full-time English lessons at the University of Toronto, delivering newspapers each morning to help provide for his family while studying.  This allowed him to land his first job and work his way up in the tourism and hospitality industries, and most recently in property management.

In 2016 with a history of heart disease and cancer among family members, one of Ricardo’s daughters introduced the family to organic, plant-forward and health-focused foods as a way to encourage them to lead healthier lifestyles.  Sharing ideas about their newfound food knowledge and the importance of organic superfoods in a healthy and balanced diet brought Miski Organics® to fruition.  

Miski Organics® is a family-owned and operated Canadian company dedicated to sharing the benefits of organic superfoods and providing families with a growing selection of exceptional healthy products – all sustainably grown, and proudly packaged in-house. In 2020 the company was nominated and became a finalist at the Business Excellence Awards from the Burlington Chamber of Commerce

In 2021 Miski Organics® made Barrie, ON its new home and since then it has expanded into a manufacturing company with an organic, Kosher and allergen-free, CFIA-certified facility. In addition to packaging and distributing, Miski Organics® now is a food manufacturer and the preferred co-packer for other local companies.

Ricardo’s entrepreneurial spirit has led him to his newest venture with sister company, Miski Brewing, which will be producing the first organic-certified, gluten-free, quinoa beer in the world, brewed here in Barrie, ON. 

In his free time, Ricardo enjoys spending time with his family, and most especially with his four grandchildren.
